Dr. Castañeto, Professor II at Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), honed his planning and management skills through his designations as Project-in-Charge in Sericulture, Watershed Area Development and Planning, Chair of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources, and Dean of the College of Forestry for almost ten years among others. One of his brainchild is the Center for Environmental Resources Management and Sustainable Development with him as the first Director. This enabled NVSU to do proactive research and extension activities in forestry and environmental resources management.

For a while, he was assigned as Presidential Assistant for Special Projects, and later as VP for Administration. Through his leadership, NVSU attained SUC Level IV, the highest leveling of SUCs during his time, along with the creation of a Vice President for Planning, Development, and Information Systems which he headed. It is said by his colleagues that “His good working attitude, virtues, and his compassion to serve the people are the qualities that make him one of the best Vice Presidents of NVSU.”

Through his researches and extension activities, he was awarded by the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature, the Forests and Natural Resources Research Society of the Philippines, Inc., DENR-Region 2, and was recognized for the advancement of Sericulture in the region. In addition, NVSU bestowed him an Outstanding Teacher, Researcher, and President’s Best Awardee.
